D ear Friend,October 2006 Please join us at our annual fundraiser, the Hunger Banquet. A very enjoyable lunch of soup and bread donated by the area's best restaurants, is set for Wednesday, November 15th. For 26 years the House of Bread has been devoted to helping the poor of Hartford and our region. From a tiny soup kitchen we have grown, with the loyal help of our friends, to a multiservice agency responding to our community's needs for food, education, housing and child development. 2006 has been a particularly demanding year for us. We are now serving close to 300 meals a day at our Chestnut Street Soup Kitchen; we have a waiting list for our affordable and supportive housing; we have a full class at our General Equivalency Diploma (GED) program for mothers; our neighborhood children in need enjoy camp, tutoring, mentoring and now our new project. Kids Cafe housed at the Asylum Hill Boys and Girls Club is serving healthy dinners to children. We could not do our ministry without your help. We look forward to seeing you and thanking you at the Hunger Banquet. Please come! Bring your friends and break bread with a great group of people.
